THE BACK STORY
There is so much about road cycling that can only be learned in the “heat of competition." With that in mind, we have built a true stage race to provide developing riders with a variety of racing scenarios. And hopefully hook them for life on the “King of Sports”!
Jeff and Ron first hosted an Axel Merckx Youth Development Foundation camp back in 2013. Since that first event, the value of organizing races solely focused around kids became apparent. There were few other kids-only races; kids usually competed in adult groups – based on their ability. This was often a demoralizing experience – and very few kids stick with the sport. Our vision is to build a classic stage race which provides youth with a positive cycling experience. We hope that each racer gains invaluable knowledge and that they return home inspired by the Hayman Classic.
Thank you to our many sponsors including Global Relay - Bridge the Gap. Also thank you to Cycling BC and to special thanks to Richard Wooles for encouraging us make this event a reality. Furthermore, hosting this race would be impossible without the help of our awesome team of volunteers. The race is organized by the not for profit COG EVENTS SOCIETY.
